Sanmarga (Path of Righteousness) has long been prevalent in Pudukottai District. As a result, the District Sanmarga Association was formed, and with its support, the Vallalar Student Home has been operating in Mathur village for over 30 years. It has consistently worked for the educational development and moral upbringing of underprivileged students.
Prominent Sanmarga patrons and scholars have supported its growth.
The District Sanmarga Association was established in 1983. The leadership included Thiru Na. Muthukrishnan as President, Thiru Sada. Manickanar as Secretary, and Thiru Sub. Chinnappa as Treasurer. Thiru C. Sankaranar assumed the role of Vice President.
Thavathiru Arunachala Swamigal, who had dedicated his wealth to the cause, wanted to establish a center benefiting both the local community and Sanmarga development. Following discussions and counsel, the decision was made to set up a Sanmarga Gurukulam under the guidance of Thiru Sankaraya.
As a subsidiary of the District Sanmarga Association, Vallalar Student Home was started under the supervision of an administrative committee guided by Thiru Sankaraya.
Justice Ku. Ra. Panchatcharam was elected as the first President of the Student Home, with other committee members serving as Vice Presidents, Secretaries, and Treasurers.
Thavathiru Arunachala Swamigal donated 1.75 acres of land, a well with bamboo fencing, a stone pavilion, and ₹20,000 to establish the home. He also arranged for his savings to support it. On June 22, 1986, the then District Collector Thiru Il. Palamalai IAS officially inaugurated Vallalar Student Home.
The home began with sixteen students, supported by villagers and branch members. Local women contributed to the food supply through small-grain donation programs.
In 1994, a new hostel building was opened by District Collector Thiru E. Chandrasekar IAS.
To support the growth of the Student Home and meet its needs, it was deemed necessary to establish a charitable trust. Based on the advice of the Student Home’s legal advisor, Advocate Thiru. Irama. Ramalingam B.A.B.L., the Vallalar Charitable Trust was formed.
It was unanimously decided that Thiru. Sankaraya would serve as the President, and by position, also hold the role of President of the District Sanmarga Association.
